When you’re buying a home, it’s important to know exactly what you’re looking for. For some people, this is very clear because they’ve always envisioned what type of home they would like to live in. But others may not have a very clear idea.
Maybe it’s a topic that you’ve never thought very much about. But it’s a good idea to think about it now, before you start looking for a home. Of course, if you have a partner or a family, you can also sit down and consult with them about what they would like in a home. Here are some tips:
Have You Ever Lived in a Home That You Loved?
Think back to your childhood or your growing-up years. Was there a house that you lived in that you absolutely loved? If so, what exactly did you love about it?
Was it the spaciousness? The grounds around it? The garden in the back? Did you love the little attic room that you had? Did you love the French windows leading out to the garden? If possible, sit down and write about what you loved about this home.
Have You Ever Been to a Home That You Loved?
Maybe you’ve never actually lived in a home that you loved, but you might have visited friends or acquaintances who lived in a beautiful home.
You know that you love a home when you get that relaxed “ahhh” feel upon entering it. So if you’ve ever been to a home like this, then sit down and write about what you loved about this home.
Have You Seen Homes That You Loved in Magazines?
Another visualization option is to look through architecture and interior decoration magazines and pull out pictures that you love. You don’t have to think too much while you’re doing this. Just allow your subconscious to take over.
These might be photos of the home from the outside or they might be photos of individual rooms. They might even be photos of a single piece of furniture. The more photos you pull out, the better.
Then arrange these photos on a vision board; this will give you an idea of your taste and what you’re looking for in a home.
