4 Day Hiking Trails Near Metro Denver

Denver is home to some of the most beautiful mountain views and scenic trails in Colorado. Whether you’re looking for homes for sale in Denver or at homes in Littleton, Boulder, Longmont or Parker, you’re never far from a great view! If you’re looking to get out and explore the outdoors, these day hiking trails will help you see some of the best sights that the Front Range has to offer.

Bear Creek Trail

Difficulty level: Easy

Sitting at 1.6 miles round-trip, this trek through Lair o’ the Bear Park takes a little over an hour to complete. It’s fairly shaded and its mostly level path makes it great for new hikers. If you’re looking for a slightly longer trip, the trail extends past the park’s boundary for another eleven miles. While parts of the trail feature segments for hikers only, this trail is also a favorite for mountain bikers so be cautious of any bikes that may be zipping past you.

Mills Lake

Difficulty level: Moderate

This 5.3 miles round-trip hike is one of the most scenic treks you’ll take in the Rocky Mountain National Park. This uphill trail takes you into the Glacier Gorge trail system and takes approximately 2-3 hours to complete. Along the way, you’ll get to see the beautiful Alberta Falls, a 30-foot waterfall that’s one of the most popular attractions in the park. Mills Lake is a great place to settle down for a picnic or try your hand at catching fish.

Ouzel Falls

Difficulty level: Moderate

Tucked away in the southeastern corner of the Rocky Mountain National Park, this 5.4 miles round-trip trail to Ouzel Falls offers several attractions to its hikers. Along the 3-4 hour trip, you may be able to spot the rare calypso orchid in late June to early July and you’ll get to experience the beauty of the Copeland Falls and the Calypso Cascades. This trail gets steeper as you walk, but it’s worth it to see the 40-foot waterfall.

Royal Arch Trail

Difficulty level: Moderate to difficult

At 3.5 miles round-trip, the hike up to Royal Arch in Chautauqua Park is one of the more strenuous day hikes. The hike takes approximately 2-3 hours to complete and has an elevation gain of more than 1400 feet. The hike shows you sweeping views of the Flatirons, but the best part is seeing the Royal Arch, a 20-foot sandstone arch.
