Where to Hike in the Denver Metro Area

Whether you’re a new resident of the Denver Metro Area, a lifelong inhabitant, or anything in-between, you may want to explore more of the beautiful state of Colorado. Hiking is a great way to tour the lands and discover new favorite spots. Here are some of the best hiking trails in the Denver Metro Area.

Trading Post Trail

The Trading Post Trail, located 20 miles from downtown Denver, is one of the easier trails in the Denver Metro Area. The trail has a round-trip length of approximately 2.8 miles and features beautiful views and well maintained trails. Along the trail you may visit the Red Rocks Amphitheater, one of the most famous concert venues in the world.

Garden of the Gods

It wouldn’t be a hiking spots list without mentioning the Garden of the Gods. Located near Colorado Springs, the Garden of the Gods is a public park and National Natural Landmark. Along the park you will find a 4 mile trail loop of easy difficulty with gorgeous ancient sedimentary beds and rock formations such as the famous “Balanced Rock”.

Emerald Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park

The Emerald Lake hike is an easy to moderate 3.6 mile round-trip trail. The trail starts at Bear Lake and visits Nymph Lake, Dream Lake, and finally Emerald Lake. In addition to the beautiful lakes, you may come across some wildlife such as black bears and deer. Snowshoeing is also very common on this trail during the winter.

Grays and Torreys Peaks

For those of you looking for a more challenging hike, look no further than Grays Peak and Torreys Peak. With a length 8.4 mile round-trip and an elevation gain of 3,556 feet, the peaks feature a gorgeous waterfall, rivers, and wild flowers. As Grays and Torreys are part of the 58 Colorado mountain peaks exceeding 14,000 feet, be advised of difficulties you may face at such altitude.
